What is Daylight Saving Time?

Daylight Saving Time (DST) is the practice of moving clocks forward by one hour during warmer months so that darkness falls at a later clock time. The main purpose is to make better use of daylight during evening hours.

When do clocks change?

In most of North America, clocks spring forward on the second Sunday in March and fall back on the first Sunday in November. In Europe, clocks change on the last Sunday of March and October. Southern hemisphere countries that observe DST do so during their summer months (October-April).

Which countries observe DST?

Approximately 70 countries observe DST in at least some regions. Most of Europe and North America observe DST, while most of Asia, Africa, and South America do not. Some countries have recently abolished DST, including Russia (2014) and Turkey (2016).
